Vladimir Zaglada Introduces the World of Gymnastics through Nature’s Master Gymnasts in “Gymmy the Owl and His Friends”

By Coach Vlad

(MENAFN – GetNews) May 25, 2020 – Celebrated Soviet gymnastics master Vladimir Zaglada is pleased to introduce the world to nature’s very own master gymnasts, the friendly neighborhood dog, cats, squirrels, little owls, and more. Children and adults will appreciate his introduction to the basic concepts of gymnastics and human flexibility in the just-launched book, ‘ Gymmy the Owl and His Friends: Tales in Rhyme About the Animal Kingdom’s Natural Gymnasts.’

‘Gymmy the Owl and his Friends is an interactive book achieved using educational blocks. The blocks inform and educate the readers about basic gymnastics skills and physical abilities needed to achieve these. For example, the ‘splits,’ the ‘handstand’ or the ‘bridge’ can be easily understood because each little poem is followed by the training page with wide advice and recommendations.

‘The poems are fun to read, and the reader also gets acquainted not only with the form of the movements but also with the correct gymnastic terminology, says Vladimir.

Children of any age can understand the forms and the rhythm of life through Mother Nature and her very own gymnastics school. With illustrator Katya’s skills, gymnastic apparatus can be seen embedded in natural environments like forests or the sea, showing some amazing natural gymnasts of the animal kingdom!

The analogy of the animal gymnasts runs truly deep. For instance, in modern gymnastics, a very difficult jump is referred to as the ‘butterfly jump’ in ballet, dance, and gymnastics.

Only eight years after the first publication of the book, Vladimir Zaglada was named the pedagogical mentor and Technical Director of BIO Gymnastics & Athletics Unlimited based in Cumming, Georgia. He subsequently celebrated another milestone in his life becoming the happiest Granddaddy. The club has become his second home, unlashing Vladimir’s creativity, and the facility has become something like a University of Gymnastics Art.

In ‘Gymmy the Owl and His Friends’ teaches the basics of gymnastics through frogs that leap, grab and land like gymnasts. Squirrels reveal their amazing gymnastics gifts, and butterflies showcase their flying lessons, and dolphins reveal their natural skills. There are hedgehogs and grasshoppers too. The book also offers explanations of human flexibility and its pros and cons, and the value of hands and legs.

‘Gymnastics opens the doors to uplifting achievements, which can only be compared to your first steps and first words. Once you enter the gym, you will never want to leave, says the author.

Vladimir Zaglada was a part of the celebrated Soviet gymnastics during its heydays. More information about Dr. Vladimir Zagdala, Ph.D., Merited Coach of Russia, USSR Master of Sport, his current work and activities can be accessed at www.coachzaglada.com

‘ Gymmy the Owl and His Friends’ is illustrated by Katya Korobkina and available from Amazon.

MAY UPDATES

By Important News

In an effort to comply with the CDC Phase 1 of the Reopening of the State, we are going to begin a modified team practice and class schedule beginning Monday, May 4, 2020 with a limited group size.  You will receive an email with your child’s schedule.  We are going to have a Star Wars theme for our first day back 🙂

We will also have limited childcare should you be in a position that requires you to work outside of your home.  Based on our building size, we can have up to 10 groups of 10 at any given time.  With our current schedule, we will be well under that with a maximum of 5 groups of 5.

Please know that we understand that you may or may not be comfortable with sending your child and we will continue with the online zoom classes and lessons through Google Classroom and the Facebook Parent group. In addition, we are implementing the following procedures:

  • The parent viewing room will remain closed
  • Students will be dropped off at the entrance to the far left of the building which will be clearly marked “Entrance”.
  • Each child will have their temperature checked at the entrance. If you prefer, you can check your child’s temperature at home and let us know. Once verified, the parent may leave. The front parking lot is absolutely only to be used for dropping off. Should you wish to stay, you can park in the back parking lot.
  • The children will follow a one-way circuit through the equipment during their practice times.
  • Equipment will be sanitized in between rotations and there will be hand sanitizer at each station.
  • There will be no spotting and no physical contact between coaches and athletes as well as athlete to athlete.
  • Spots on the floor will be set up to ensure social distancing per guidelines
  • When practice is over, the children will be dismissed out the BACK door to the rear parking lot. We will set up a car rider line similar to how schools set up their car rider.

These guidelines will be STRICTLY enforced.  If anyone in your family is ill, you must keep your child home.

In addition to these guidelines, we have treated the entire gym with a new, state-of-the-art, FDA approved anti-microbial cleaner that kills all germs, viruses and bacteria on contact.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Happy 7th Birthday BIO!

Happy 7th Birthday BIO!

It is hard to believe that  7 years ago we took a true leap of faith and opened BIO Gymnastics.  To think that so much time has gone by try boggles the mind, especially this year, and today as we are faced with so much uncertainty thanks to COVID-19.

One thing I can say is our BIO family ROCKS!  From our families that entrust us with their children and are now supporting us with the same faith in us that we have in them.  We are so grateful for each and every one of you and thank you just doesn’t seem enough.

We know our faith will carry us through these uncharted waters and we hope you will take advantage of our on line options that we are going to be rolling out over the next week.  We are still looking forward to Summer and the amazing things we are planning for everyone.  We can’t wait to get everyone back in the gym!

Happy birthday, BIO!

Latest Updates

By Important News

As we continue to update everyone on the situations at hand, we want to once again assure you that we are doing everything we can to continue to provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for your children.  We had begun taking extra precautions last year to prepare for the cold and flu season by doing the following:

  • More frequent cleaning of all areas
  • Purchasing a $3,000 air purifying/cleaning system
  • Continuing to provide hand sanitizing stations
  • Using disposable cups vs. a water fountain

In addition to that, we are taking the following extra precautions:

  • Frequent deep cleaning and sanitizing throughout the day
  • Ensuring staff and students are washing their hands
  • Multiple access to hand sanitizer
  • Spreading out practice times in the gym to reduce the number of students together at one time to adhere to the CDC’s guidelines.

We would like to encourage parents of children 6 years old and older to drop off their children and refrain from crowds in the parent room. As always, we ask that if you or your child are showing any signs of illness, i.e. fever, cough, runny nose, that you stay home and contact the office so a make-up token can be assigned to you

We want everyone to know that we respect everyone’s decisions that they are making at this time.  We hope you will in turn respect ours as we navigate this challenge never faced before.  We are here to service our families and in doing so, our offering camp as a means to support those families unable to work from home.  Recognizing this unexpected financial impact, we are waiving any early drop-off/late pickup fees that are normally charged during break camps.  We have purchased additional equipment to set up computer stations for e-learning.  For those families choosing to remain home, we are offering make-up tokens without an expiration date.

Our goal is for the children to have some small sense of normalcy throughout this situation.  As always, thank you for being part of the BIO family.  We appreciate your support during this time of uncertainty.

So What’s with the Owls?

By Get a Grip

Many of you have wondered, if not asked where did we come up with these names for our classes.  Bears, frogs and owls – oh my!

Our mentor and friend, Coach Vlad, wrote the first children’s book specifically about gymnastics and the animal kingdom.  The main character is Gymmy, the Owl.  He along with many of his friends in the animal kingdom explore how their natural movements can relate to and tie in with the wonderful sport of gymnastics.  In a way to forever honor and recognize Coach Vlad’s contribution not only to the sport of gymnastics throughout the world, but more specifically to the birth of BIO, we named our programs and classes after characters in his book.

In addition, our end of the year performance for classes has been named the “Flight of the Owls”.  We look forward to our students being able to showcase their talent and all of the skills they have learned this year!

Do Not Make Me Cry

By Get a Grip

Many of you know that we will be gathering this evening to honor Coach Vlad as he ventures to Europe this Summer to be with his family, including his new granddaughter.  Ask him and he will assure you that this is NOT goodbye and that he already has his ticket to come back.  This just seems the appropriate time to honor someone who has become a special part of our family, someone I affectionately call “Godfather”.  I do believe he was sent to us through God’s intervention and we will be forever grateful for that.

When Vlad learned of Donna Kaye’s desire to coach, he took the opportunity to mentor her without hesitation.  Starting BIO Gymnastics was on his recommendation that the timing was right.  I still remember the first time I heard him coach in our new gym and how it warmed my heart.  I have truly loved hearing “Correct!” or “Everyone! Watch this!” come from the gym floor these past four years which have truly flown by.  I have enjoyed watching Donna Kaye grow into a great coach.  I have enjoyed watching other proteges that Vlad has mentored develop highly successful programs and I am excited for the future that is in store for BIO.  I am so incredibly grateful that we were the ones blessed with him and that my daughters took advantage of his knowledge and enthusiasm and became sponges every time he was around.  I am grateful that we were the ones who recognized his value as a mentor, person, and friend. I am grateful that Donna Kaye chose this path, delaying college so that she could be Vlad’s protege, one of the best if I do say so myself.

We have been through a lot as the BIO family, these past four years.  Incredible joys and incredible sorrow.  I will continue to focus on this time as one of joy and try to honor Vlad’s wish about crying.  It’s going to be hard not to cry, but it is now time for our gym to fly.  With our dedicated staff, left with an unending amount of resources provided by Coach Vlad, we will continue to move forward and grow.  Donna Kaye will move into a leadership role that she has literally been groomed for.  Katie and Eleanor will continue in their leaderships roles as well, along with J-Hawk and the rest of our amazing staff.

I am an optimist, and I look forward to our bright future. One that will continue to include Coach Vlad and made possible by him.

I love you, Godfather.

Recognizing Our Seniors – Mackenzie & Emily

By Get a Grip

This is always a bittersweet time of year as state meet season starts, so does senior recognition.  BIO has had at least one senior graduate every year since we’ve started competing.  It always brings tears to my eyes as I will sorely miss those that are moving on to the next chapter of their lives and the bright future they have in store.  This year is no exception.

Being recognized as a senior in gymnastics is truly an honor and the sacrifices and commitment that these athletes made should never go unnoticed.  The dances, football games and so many things that these wonderful athletes have passed up to pursue their passion in this sport is something that should be honored and congratulated.  The life lessons they learn of discipline, resilience and commitment are lessons they can take with them throughout their adult lives.

We have been blessed this to recognize two individuals who have been a wonderful presence in our gym and will be missed for sure!

Mackenzie Miller is a graduating senior from Forsyth Central High School.  One of twelve children, Mackenzie started gymnasts at the age of two and has pursued the sport throughout her entire scholastic career.  Her highlights include scoring a perfect 10.0 on the uneven bars as well as winning multiple local, state and national champion awards.  She has qualified for regionals twice as a level 9 and competing as a level 10 in her senior year.  Mackenzie also competes all around for the Forsyth Central high school team.  In 2016, she was awarded the Georgia Positive Athlete Award. She is a member of the FLOOD Service Organization and the National Honor Society with a current GPA of 4.1 Mackenzie currently coaches for BIO Gymnastic’s competitive team and is a constant encourager at the gym with her bright smile and never give up attitude. Mackenize’s bright future includes majoring in Exercise Science at Kennesaw State University where she will also compete for their club gymnastics team.

Emily Loveless is a graduating senior at Forsyth Central  High School and is rounding out her career as a level 8 gymnast for BIO Gymnastics.  Emily is ranked 9th in her class and has a 4.2 GPA.  She found her passion for gymnastics at the young age of 2 and has pursued the sport her entire scholastic career.  Emily’s favorite event is floor.  Her tireless work ethic in the gym serves as a great example for her teammates and she always can find a smile to share with those around her.  Emily also competes on the Forsyth Central High School Gymnastics team and was on their High School Cheer Team all four years, lettering in both sports.   Emily will be attending UGA in the Fall.
